Upper respiratory infections had us feeling icky most of last week, but Anna Claire and Mallory thankfully started feeling more like themselves Saturday. Sick little ones is NO fun, but being a sick mommy having to take care of sick little ones really stinks!
It was good to see the girls feeling well enough to play a game of twister Saturday afternoon ~ hilarious!!

Another Rained~Out Saturday
Anna Claire and Mallory are riding bikes while singing "The Wheels on the Bike..." in their pj's...in the garage.
Happy Birthday, 'chelle 'chelle!

My Wee Lass
It's know around these parts that the girls have a bit of Scottish blood in them...on their Daddy's side. It's no wonder then, that they are both fascinated with Merida. Anna Claire is the Queen of Dress Up, so she was thrilled to get a new Merida wig from Grandmom {Mallory has yet to put hers on, but I'm workin' on it}.
Now her hair matches that fiery attitude she has sometimes! {no, not Anna Claire! ~ I know that's what some of you are thinking!}

On Being a Lady
Mommy: Mallory, what was the best part of school today?
Mallory: Mommy, I'm concentrating right now. {setting up dinosaurs} I'll have to talk to you later.
Anna Claire: Mommy, when a lady says later she really means never.
Mommy: {incredulous}
Anna Claire: Well, that's what Charlotte says in The Princess and the Frog.
Oh, the things they are learning from Disney movies!

Ready for the Runway?
This is how Anna Claire keeps busy in the mornings when I'm getting ready for work. She goes into my closet, puts on everything purple {cardigan, two scarves, shoes, and a necklace ~ she knows the importance of accessorizing} and gives us a little fashion show.
If you guessed purple is her favorite color, you're right!

Poor Sweetie
Anna Claire got a few ant bites out by the pool today. Through her tears and frustration she cried, "When Cody and Tanner went to dog heaven they were supposed to woof to God not to let there be any more ants to bite me!"
Sweet girl.
Sweet girl.

Is the Weekend Really Over?
For a while now I would have told you that Disney princesses and My Little Pony were running neck and neck in popularity with the girls, but recently, the ponies have taken the lead. This was a pony picnic...lots of tiny pieces.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a daily habit yet, but on the weekends the girls usually like to make their beds...they do a really good job and are very proud of themselves {so am I}.Friday I lugged home a twin mattress from my parents' house so I could "see" the girls' room with twin beds. So, we've pretty much decided that the following are not options {for various reasons}
- converting the playroom to their bedroom
- splitting them up ~ one in the current room and one next door in the spare room/art room/sewing room
- bunk beds
This afternoon was Brennan's birthday at The Little Gym. The girls had a blast and asked if they could have their birthday party there. Oops. Had to remind them we'd already ordered invitations and our party will be at home this year {details to come}.
Back home, the girls picked right up where they left off by constructing Equestria complete with Canterlot Castle, Apple Jack's barn and the Everfree Forest.
As if we already weren't laughing so hard we were crying, I thought I'd ask her to roll her tongue, too. What a goober!
Family Fun Fact: Anna Claire and I are tongue rollers; Walter and Mallory are not!

Rhyme Time
I've been working with Anna Claire and Mallory for a while on rhyming. A few weeks ago, it "clicked" with both of them and now we're rhyming all the time...real words and nonsense words...in the car, in the tub, at the dinner table.
Well, it finally happened today. I was at my parents' house to pick up the girls after work when Mallory asked, "Do bucket and @#&% it rhyme?" Now, I know for a fact she has never heard the f~word or the phrase. Ever. But, both girls have caught on to the concept that swapping out initial consonant sounds produces rhymes and they come up with rhymes like lamp and bamp, basket and hasket all the time. Knowing her slip of the tongue was completely innocent is what made it so funny. I think my mom and I let out a scream at the exact same time then started laughing uncontrollably.
Luckily, Mallory had no clue what she had said or what we were laughing about and she has not repeated herself. Whew!
In other news, the girls are still sick ~ coughing, throwing up from coughing so hard, sneezing, runny noses, Mallory's had diarrhea, and Anna Claire has been running an evening temp {101 last night and 102.5 tonight}. Thankfully, the girls are in pretty good spirits.
Here's to hoping we get a little more sleep tonight. The weekend cannot get here fast enough.

A Lesson on Raising Twins
by Mallory
Easter Sunday I was ready to get the girls dressed to go over to my parents when Mallory ran over to her closet and pulled out the dress she wanted to wear...a brown, long-sleeved, polka-dotted minky dress.
Not exactly what I had in mind. I asked her to put it back because she and Anna Claire were going to wear their new lavender checked, smocked Easter dresses to which she replied oh~so~matter~of~ factly:
"Mommy, you know Anna Claire I don't always like the same things. Sometimes I want to wear something different."
Touché sweet girl. You are growing up way too fast for mommy.
{she did end up wearing the Easter dress, by the way}

Things We Talk About in the Car
Mallory {she who does not like milk}: Mommy, you know the brown chocolate milk that cows poop is disgusting.
Me: {thinking to myself we've got to get this clarified}: Cows don't poop milk.
{and in the second I hesitated trying to figure out how to introduce the term udders}
Anna Claire: Mallory, you get milk from cows by squeezing their pipes.
{Pipes? Okaaaayy...I'd say she clarified things for us just fine!}

Right Now
Mallory has been in her room calling my name because she wants more water...which she is NOT going to get.
Walter is listening from around the corner as Mallory tries to convince Anna Claire to yell with her in unison...
"Anna Claire, let's yell together..."
"Anna Claire, louder..."
Anna Claire yells my name and Walter hears Mallory say, "Good, Anna Claire; you got it."
I figure they'll get tired in a minute or two and fall asleep.

Nobember
I really must do a better job preserving the silly, witty, hilarious, observant, and downright intelligent things the girls say these days.
Tonight Mallory told me oh~so~matter~of~factly that it was "Nobember." I asked her what holiday was in November and she said, "Thanksgibing."
Then she said she didn't want to eat turkey because they had feathers. I reminded her that chickens also had feathers and we ate them {the chicken, not the feathers} all the time. She agreed, telling me the reason we didn't eat the feathers was because they were too expensive.
And this little conversation occurred while she was sitting on the potty tonight. The girls and I sometimes have the deepest conversations while they are on the potty. I think I'll start keeping paper and pencil in the bathroom.

She Dressed Herself
Anna Claire couldn't decide if she should have worn this to the Royal Wedding last week or to the Derby today. Since we didn't get invited to either, she paraded around the house for a while quite pleased with her "look."
I think that's the last of the spring break pictures I wanted to share...finally!

I Can't Believe It's Not...
Last night at the dinner table, Mallory asked me if this was Jesus. I told her it was Pocahontas, to which Anna Claire replied, "Of course it's Pocahontas." {"Of course" is Anna Claire's newest catch phrase of which she tacks on to the beginning of just about everything she says}.
Mallory had the most incredulous look on her face, and I got so tickled at the whole little conversation I almost choked on my drip beef sandwich {try it...you'll like it}.
The ask they most inquisitive, cute, and silly questions these days it's hard to stifle a giggle sometimes and answer them with a straight face.

So Silly
I never know what I'm going to find when I walk around the corner, for example: Anna Claire wearing a baseball cap backwards while playing the kazoo...
And just to make sure Mallory gets credit for being equally as silly, this afternoon when referring to a hair clip she found in the basket where we keep the diaper cream, nail clippers, etc., she used the word thingamajig as in, "What's this thingamajig doing in here?!" I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes.

Orange You Glad...
...she didn't eat the entire crayon? Can't you just imagine what her face and teeth would have looked liken then?
Anna Claire has always been the one to put things she shouldn't into her mouth, and while we've come a long way with that, she still loves to eat crayons.
If we are coloring, I have to watch closely because if I don't she'll sneak off into her room with a crayon, quietly close the door, and gobble it up before I even know she's left the room. I, personally, have never tasted a crayon, so I am not sure what that's all about. Something she's missing in her diet maybe?
Remember this? The first of many crayon casualties.

People, Places, and Quilts
Today, the girls and I ran a few errands around town including a stop by the fabric store. They were so well-behaved in a store full of plenty of "eye-candy" and played patiently while our fabric was being cut.
Afterwards, we decided to take a short walk to Walter's office, but it was so hot out the girls wanted to take a little break. ;-)

Room for Two
Tonight Walter was giving the girls "pony rides" before bedtime. As Anna Claire and Mallory started doing a little pushing and shoving, Walter says, "There's room for everyone." Anna Claire shouts, "There's rooms for everyone," and adds, "There's two rooms and one's for me."

Funny Girl
Mallory ate a huge supper tonight and "yummed" herself through the whole thing {this girl loves food}. While she was having orange slices for dessert and asking for more, more, more, I remarked that I didn't know where she was putting it. Her answer: "In my mouth."
Cute.
Cute.
