The girls met a police officer at school this week. They learned how police officers are our friends and how they help us. They also got to see the really cool police car with its flashing lights and loud siren. Then, they all lined up for a picture. I have laughed and laughed at this picture a thousand times. What a line-up... Mallory couldn't have a bigger grin on her face, and Anna Claire looks worried she's about to get hauled away. She does not want that police officer's hand on her shoulder for one more minute!

Backyard Peas
The girls love the Backyardigans, and while I wasn't a huge fan in the beginning, I've certainly come around {this video seals the deal}.
The only thing cuter might be if I could teach Anna Claire and Mallory that dance!
Now, tell me that doesn't make you want to get up and dance!

So Silly
I never know what I'm going to find when I walk around the corner, for example: Anna Claire wearing a baseball cap backwards while playing the kazoo...
And just to make sure Mallory gets credit for being equally as silly, this afternoon when referring to a hair clip she found in the basket where we keep the diaper cream, nail clippers, etc., she used the word thingamajig as in, "What's this thingamajig doing in here?!" I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes.

Clean Up and Clean Out
~before~

Playtime
Anna Claire loves playing up by the front door. She gathers all her "things" which vary from time to time but typically consists of lovies, doll strollers, her purse, her "laptop" and any other toys she may fancy at the time. She gets everything "all set up" and just chats away as she pretends to be at the beach, CVS, the movies {??}, etc. and she couldn't be happier as playing all by herself.

Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen?
How in the world am I getting dinner on the table each night? I do all the prep work in the wee hours of the morning and... The girls "cook" dinner themselves using play-doh when we get home in the afternoon. Their favorite things to make are noodles, crackers, and dumplings {courtesy of an episode of Ni Hao, Kai Lan where Yeh-Yeh makes dumplings}. The play-doh sure can be messy if its starting to crumble, but it gives me a good thirty minutes to work on dinner without interruption which is a huge help.
The girls also play with homemade play-doh at school, so we may try that recipe when our current supply of the "real stuff" starts to dry out.

Orange You Glad...
...she didn't eat the entire crayon? Can't you just imagine what her face and teeth would have looked liken then?Anna Claire has always been the one to put things she shouldn't into her mouth, and while we've come a long way with that, she still loves to eat crayons.
If we are coloring, I have to watch closely because if I don't she'll sneak off into her room with a crayon, quietly close the door, and gobble it up before I even know she's left the room. I, personally, have never tasted a crayon, so I am not sure what that's all about. Something she's missing in her diet maybe?
Remember this? The first of many crayon casualties.

Tea for Two
A few weeks ago the girls went to their first tea party ~ Hope's third birthday party. They had so much fun making beaded necklaces, decorating princess wands, playing dress up, drinking "tea" and running around {and keeping up} with all the "big girls" that I can't believe I forgot to post a couple pictures.
Jennifer did such a good job with the party that we'll probably be borrowing the tea party idea one day for the girls.
And what a gorgeous cake. Someone from her church made it. The tea pot and tea cups were edible! You could have fooled me...they looked like porcelain.

Howdy, Partner!
Giddy~up!
Ride 'em Cowboy!
Ride 'em Cowboy!
These are Mallory's new catch phrases. She really likes to watch Toy Story. And Toy Story Two. A lot.
We watched Toy Story so many times the other weekend that I sent Walter to buy Toy Story Two for a change of scenery. She doesn't actually sit and watch the entire movie from start to finish, but she sure can sit still a loooong time. I think she has a crush on Woody. She talks about him all the time and doesn't pay Buzz nearly half the attention.
And what do you think of the picture? The rocking horse has a new name...Bulls Eye. And I think she needs a cowgirl hat. The Easter bonnet doesn't have quite the effect I think she's going for!

Labor Day Weekend
We had a busy Labor Day weekend as we bid a fond farewell to summer by playing in the pool Sunday {whoops, no pictures} and a taking a boat ride on the river Monday...
Captain of the ship, Mallory, and her first mate, Anna Claire.Anna Claire takes the wheel.
Looking for porpoises ~ or dolphins ~ porpoises {what is the difference??}There were many to be seen swimming lazily along the river bank. This one surfaced right beside the boat and nearly scared us all half to death. If I had been faster with the camera, this could have been an amazing picture! One minute Anna Claire was looking for porpoises and the next she was about to fall asleep standing up. I scooped her up and she instantly feel asleep ~ and stayed asleep until we got back to the dock. We're sad to see summer go, but we sure are looking forward to cooler weather. Come on, fall!
